Like previous years, Los Angeles is celebrating a new forum of electronic games. From June 15 to 17, the Electronic Entertainment Expo, commonly known as E3 is holding in the Convention Center of this city of South California. The show for the computer and video games industry is organized by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA).
At E3, Nintendo unveiled the 3DS, an handheld gaming systems which can play games in 3D without the use of special glasses. Sony announced a new motion-control system to plugs into a PlayStation 3. Microsoft presented Kinect, and add-on to the Xbox 360 which allows players to control games using only their bodies and voice commands.
Como años anteriores, Los Ángeles se ha convertido en foro del sector de juegos electrónicos. Oficialmente desde ayer 15 de junio y hasta el 17, en el Centro de Convenciones de la gran ciudad del sur de California se celebra una nueva edición de la Exposición de Entretenimiento Electrónico (E3 Expo), importante exposición y conferencia organizada anualmente por el Entertainment Software Association (ESA).
Días antes del evento, Dell introdujo un nuevo computador móvil para juegos de la familia Alienware. Al respecto, BRIEF ANALYSIS comentó el lanzamiento del computador Alienware M11x con procesador Intel Core i7 y la tecnología Optimus de NVidia (hardware y software). Aparentemente, por comentarios de algunos de visitantes del E3, la nueva criatura de Dell es una de los protagonistas del evento a nivel de los PCs orientados a juegos.
En la arena específica de sistemas de juegos electrónicos, Nintendo, Microsoft y Sony están haciendo anuncios específicos.
El fabricante japonés padre de Wii presentó a 3DS, un sistema de juegos de mano que ejecuta juegos electrónicos 3D sin necesidad de usar anteojos especiales.
Microsoft introdujo Kinect, un complemento de Xbox 360 que permite que los jugadores controlen los juegos usando movimientos de sus cuerpos y comandos de voz.
Por último, Sony anunció PlayStation Move, un nuevo sistema de control de movimientos de PlayStation que oficialmente será lanzado al mercado a mediados de septiembre.
La versión 2010 de la ya tradicional Exposición de Entretenimiento Electrónico incluye muchas otras novedades, en especial de software. Desde días atrás la prensa especializada mencionó hizo comentarios sobre algunos de los mejores títulos del presente año: Red Dead Redemption, Heavy Rain, etcétera.
Durante los dos últimos años, la industria de juegos electrónicos (software, hardware) sufrió una marcada declinación de ingresos en particular por los efectos de la crisis del 2008.
Por otra parte, el avance de los teléfonos inteligentes y tableros digitales con juegos electrónicos, también ha golpeado al sector específico de juegos de mano.
Adicionalmente, otro factor negativo es la distribución gratuita de programas de entretenimientos, como la reciente campaña de Nokia ofreciendo un sinnúmero de programas de música y juegos sin costos a clientes de sus nuevos teléfonos digitales en China, India, Brasil, Rusia y otros países.
En resumen, la versión actual de E3 desde Los Ángeles seguramente será importante para medir en que medida la industria genuina de software de juegos puede volver a trepar y evitar el derrumbe de los genios del entretenimiento.
Muchos observadores ajenos al negocio piensan que los juegos electrónicos son sólo para los chicos de la casa y para los usuarios de computadores aburridos de las cosas serias. Recientemente, estudios médicos y de educación han demostrado que el nivel actual de la tecnología de juegos ayuda a reeducar a personas que han perdido capacidades motrices normales del cuerpo humano. Además muchos juegos puede facilitar el entrenamiento de personal técnico de empresas y de estudiantes avanzados de la universidad. Por lo expuesto, las noticias de E3 trascienden el mero nicho de la industria de entretenimientos.
IBM-COREMETRICS
IBM anunció un nuevo casamiento. Esta vez la compañía elegida fue Coremetrics, líder de software analítico de Web, compañía privada de San Mateo, California con más de 2.100 clientes de su sus soluciones de Saas (Software as a Service). De acuerdo con lo informado por IBM, esta adquisición fortalecerá sus capacidades de herramientas analíticas para negocios incluso vinculadas con computación nube (cloud computing).
TECH WALL STREET
En la segunda jornada de la semana, los mercados bursátiles de Nueva York cerraron en territorio positivo. Todos los índices importantes de Wall Street subieron.
Al cierre de la sesión bursátil del martes 15 de junio, estas fueron las variaciones de los principales índices de Wall Street:
- Dow Jones Industrials Average ganó 213,88 puntos, o sea 2,10%, para cerrar en 10404,77.
- Nasdaq Composite subió 61,92 puntos, o sea 2,76%, cerrando en 2305,88.
- S&P 500 creció 2,35%.
- NYSE levantó 2,52%.
Las acciones estrellas del 2009 finalizaron el día con los siguientes resultados :
- Google subió $14,80, o sea 3,06%, cerrando en $497,99.
- priceline.com ganó $1,63, o sea 0,89%, para cerrar en $185,77.
- Apple creció $5,41, o sea 2,13%, cerrando en $259,69.
En el sector de chips y semiconductores, Applied Materials, Intel, y Qualcomm subieron.
En el sector de sistemas, computadores, almacenamiento y redes, IBM, HP, Apple, Dell, Cisco, y EMC finalizaron la sesión en territorio positivo. IBM cerró en $129,79. HP concluyó la sesión en $47,98.
En el sector de software, Adobe, Microsoft, Oracle, y Symantec cerraron la jornada en alza.
En el sector de impresión e imagen,Canon, Kodak, Lexmark, y Xerox subieron.
En el sector de servicios de Internet, Baidu subió. Google y Yahoo cerraron en territorio positivo.
En el sector de comercio electrónico, Amazon.com, EBay, y priceline.com finalizaron con números positivos.
En el sector de telecomunicaciones, AT&T, Sprint Nextel, y Verizon Communications subieron.
1.- De 38 empresas representativas de diferentes sectores de la industrias de tecnología e Internet, al cierre del día, 36 cerraron en territorio positivo y 2 finalizaron en territorio negativo.
2.- El mejor crecimiento del grupo fue el de First Solar (+9,06%).
3.- La peor caída de todo el grupo fue la de Best Buy (-6,07%).

During the afternoon of June 25, two important technology companies from different sectors posted the results of the respective last quarters informing to Wall Street analysts about revenues and net incomes. For the quarter ended on May 29, Research In Motion reported revenue of $4.24 billion, just below the Wall Street consensus of $4.35 billion. The maker shipped 11.2 million smart phones in the quarter, and added 4.9 million net new subscriber accounts. Oracle announced fiscal 2010 four quarter with total revenues of $9.5 billion, up 39% compared year over year. According to the company the quarter was solid in results. White Oracle is going out of all the problems of the Sun Microsystems merger, Research In Motion suffers difficulties for the hard competition of iPhone and the smart-phones based on Android platform.

Days ago, Wall Street posted an article written by Ting-I Tsai in Taipei (Taiwan) that said Acer is confident that it will accomplish its goal of becoming the No. 1 notebook vendor this year despite the economic crisis. The chairman of the PC maker, J.T. Wang thinks revenue in the third quarter will rise 10% to 15% from the second quarter. Also, the company of Taiwan expects personal computer shipments could rise as much as 50% this year. Till now, the leader of the sector is Hewlett-Packard but Acer is growing more than HP in the last quarters.

The last news came from Nokia that lowed its sales forecast of the current quarter because it cans achieve its previous outlook. Meanwhile, Apple informed it took pre-orders for more than 600,000 of the new iPhone 4. Novell: Less Revenues, No Net Losses

Novell announced financial results for its second fiscal quarter ended on April 30, 2010. For the quarter, the software company reported net revenue of $204 million, when a year ago it posted $216 million. For the other side, it net income was $19.9 million. In the same period of 2009, it was $15.6 million. Novell sees revenue of $205 million to $210 million in the current quarter, below the average of $210 analysts have been expected. Despite the enterprises are hiring new software and the economy is recovering, Novell doesn't show signs of growth. Some observers expect a potential acquisition of the father of Netware.
