Sprint Mulls its 'Divorce' from Nextel
Sprint medita su 'divorcio' de Nextel
Sprint Nextel Corporation is considering spinning off or selling its Nextel unit because the common businesses are not running well. In 2005, Sprint expended $35 billion in the acquisition of Nextel Communications to create the No. 3 wireless carrier of the United States. After approximately 3 years working together, Sprint says the merger has been a failure.

Intel Corporation and Yahoo published their respective figures of the second quarter 2007. The semiconductor leader came to the Wall Street’s scene with a growth of 44.41% in net income, while the Internet’s company informed a decline of 2.29% in the same item. Intel announced revenue of $8.7 billion and a net income of $1.3 billion. Yahoo published revenue of $ 1.7 billion and net income of 161 million.

From Hong Kong, Lenovo distributed a good news. The Chinese company that 2 years ago bought the IBM PC unit is finally starting to look like a true multinational. Its full-year revenue was US$14.6 billion, up 10% compared with the previous year. And its full-year pre-tax income (excluding restructuring) climbed to US$200 million, up 29%. Lenovo also posted its fourth fiscal quarter ended the same March 31, 2007.

Hewlett-Packard published the financial results for its second fiscal quarter ended on April 30, 2007, with net revenue of $25.5 billion and GAAP net earnings of $1.8 billion. With these figures, it achieved a 13% growth year over year, but its net income declined 6.53% due to a year-earlier tax benefit. The company raised its full-year forecast.

Cisco Acquires WebEx to Extend its Focus

Cisco Systems and WebEx Communications agreed a merger. Cisco will pay $3.2 billion for WebEx. This deal will augment Cisco web applications capabilities with web conference solutions. Also it is entering in the collaboration arena where IBM and Microsoft compete too.

HP grew 57.05% in revenues ($17,877 million) compared with the same period of 2002 ($11,383 million), before the merger with Compaq. Its net income also rose 48.97% ($721 million) compared wih $484 million net income of the first quarter 2002.

Oracle versus IBM / Oracle frente a IBM
A week ago, Gartner Dataquest informed that IBM captured 34.6 percent of the revenue in the overall database market in 2001, up from 33.7 percent the previous year. Oracle fell to second place with 32 percent of the market, down from 34.1 percent. Microsoft remained in the third place growing from 14 percent to 16.3 percent. What happened after that?
