Hewlett-Packard said researchers from HP Labs developed the "Memristor", new memory technologies that consume far less power of the current technologies.It has the potential to lower power consumption and provide greater resiliency and reliability in the face of power interrruptions to a data center.

5 Partners to Produce 32 nm Semiconductors

A group of semiconductor makers integrated by IBM, Chartered, Samsung, Infineon and Freescale agreed to develop and manufacture advanced 32-nanometer semiconductors. These companies have joint development and manufacturing agreements at 90nm, 65nm and 45nm. The partners will be able to produce high-performance, energy-efficient chips at 32nm in 2010.

This morning, Intel Corporation is launching four new high-performance Pentium 4 processors at 2.8, 2.66, 2.6 and 2.5 Ghz. The announcement includes significant slashes of the prices of previous microprocessors for desktop PCs. For example, Intel is lowering the price of the existing 2.53 Ghz Pentium 4 processor to $243 from $637, representing a 63% decline.

Millipede Technology: Prototype in the Lab

IBM Labs created a new kind of super-dense storage technology. IBM researchers have developed an innovative nanotechnology data storage and retrieval breakthrough that holds up to a trillion bit of information per square inch into a thin plastic film, enough to store 25 million textbook pages on a surface the size of a postage stamp. Using the new technology, the scientists have demostrated a data storage density 20 times higher than the densest magnetic storage available today. The experimental prototype is part of a project code-named Millipede.
